News and Information about Dogs, Cats, and Pet Products

With the weather getting warmer, we’ve been finding ourselves getting just as excited as our dogs when it’s time to go for a walk. Sure, winter snow is pretty to look at, but nothing beats taking a stroll down a sunny sidewalk while you breathe in the fresh springtime air. The only downside is that you’re not the only one spending more time outside. More hustle and bustle on your favorite walking paths mean more distractions (and temptations) for your dog.

We know it’s easier to just clip the leash to your pup’s collar, and we also know that sometimes even clipping the leash on is easier said than done, but we promise that adding one extra step will make a huge difference when taking walks! See, when you’re just clipping the leash to the collar, you’re putting the strain of every last car, squirrel, and bike right onto your dog’s neck. Meanwhile, while your pup is getting choked, your arm is getting pulled halfway out of its socket trying to maintain any semblance of control. The job of a harness is to take all the pressure off your dog’s neck (and your arms) and move it to a more central point on their body, making a walk in the park feel like…well…a walk in the park! You have firmer control over your dog, who in turn, doesn’t choke. It’s a win-win all around.

Like most things in life, though, not all harnesses are created equally, and the last thing you want is to go through all the effort picking, sizing, and then putting a harness on your dog just for them to slip out by the time you’re at the end of the driveway! We’ve met our fair share of customers with dogs who happen to be expert Harness Houdini’s, and even more who are far from expert but still try their best to wriggle free. We always point them towards the Freedom Harness by 2 Hounds Design.

The Freedom Harness does exactly as it says: it makes you feel like there’s nothing there! The American-made nylon webbing is lightweight, featuring a Swiss velvet-lined chest strap to prevent chafing, and has been tested to pull up to 3800 lbs. If your dog is able to break through that then we’re going to be honest with you, it’s possible you actually own an elephant or maybe a very large walrus.

What truly makes the Freedom Harness unique, though, is the patented “control loop” on the back. That single little strap offers a wide variety of ways to hook up your leash to give yourself the proper amount of control based on the situation, making it perfect for anything from training a new puppy to a quick trip around the block to hiking in the woods! 2 Hounds Design also carries some of the most diverse sizes of any brand on the market, and is able to fit dogs anywhere from 14 lbs to 250+ lbs, so dachshunds and dalmatian owners alike can enjoy the benefits!

If you’re interested in learning more, we carry several varieties in-store and online. You can also stop into any of our locations to get a custom fitting for FREE!
