News and Information about Dogs, Cats, and Pet Products

Hi Everyone!  Erica here to help you combat those pesky fleas and ticks that are so prevalent this time of year.  I am going to tell you about three of my favorite products that we carry at Two Bostons.  Yes, I really do use all three!  Can you tell I don’t like bugs?!

PetzLife, makes an edible product called Tickz.  The powder comes in a small white jar.  Tickz is a safe non-toxic herbal recipe that makes your pets skin undesirable to biting insects.  You simply sprinkle the specified amount on your pet’s food twice a day for five days.  Your pet will be protected for 2-3 months and the recipe takes effect in as little as 5-10 days.  I have been using this product for a year and my dogs have been completely free of pests.

The second product that I use to ward of pesky bugs is Vets Best Flea and Tick Spray.  The potent blend of peppermint oil and clove extract safely kills both live fleas and flea eggs by contact while soothing your pets skin and leaving them smelling fresh.  I like to use this spray when I take my dogs for a walk in an area with long grass or a lot of trees.  I apply before the walk and after.  This would be a great product to bring with to any of your outdoor activities. The cool thing about this product is it comes in a yard spray as well.

The third product is Diatomaceous Earth by Wholistic Pet.  This product comes in a small white jar similar to the Tickz jar.  Diatomaceous Earth is the crushed fossils of freshwater organisms and marine life.  These fossils are crushed into a very fine powder that resembles broken glass when magnified.  The substance is completely safe for pets, but deadly to insects.  The sharp edges literally cut the protective coating on the insect causing dehydration and death.  It also works on larvae.

Now you ask, what do I do with the powder?  This wonderful powder can be used in many ways.  If your pet has fleas, you can sprinkle the powder onto your pets fur, keeping clear of their eyes.  The powder can also be sprinkled on carpet, flooring, bedding and outside areas where your dog likes to lay.  Thankfully, I haven’t had fleas on a dog, but I use this product outside where they frequently lay.

Diatomaceous Earth also controls internal parasites.  It kills whipworms, round worms, pin worms and hook worms within a week of giving a daily dose.  A medium size dog up to 50 lbs only needs ½ tsp daily.  It is best used for 30 days to kill not only the worms, but also their eggs.  This powder is a very cost effective safe way to rid your pet of pests!
